Just last night, before reading Rob's great article, I watched on cable news an incredible scene. A solo shoplifter in New York, in broad daylight, walked into what appears to be a pharmacy. And pulls out a small blow torch with which he began burning through the locks to the glass doors encasing store products. It took him awhile, while store employees stood by watching, cell phones to their ears. Finally he cut through, and began emptying numerous items into a big bag.
No security guard no police, no intervention. When America finally hits rock bottom and learns what real pain feels like, the worst of it will be the realization we deserved no better.
