Issue #197
Since the election I've been surprised—and sometimes shocked—by the strength of Trump's statements, the speed of his action, and some of his appointments. It started with a series of short videos he made. They were so forthright and outside the norm of what politicians usually say that I thought they might be deepfake videos made by AI. This one lays out his plan to “shatter the Deep State.” This video (and this one with J.D. Vance) is about free speech and censorship.
Wow! This is a sea change from what we've seen and heard from politicians and the government since at least 9/11. Although these changes are radical compared to the status quo, they are exactly what is needed to right this ship, and come just before our ship actually sank for good. These videos put Americans on notice that there's a new sheriff in town, and he's not messing around.
In recent days, Trump has announced several new cabinet picks every day. I think most of them are quite good. Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are perfect picks to head up the “Department of Government Efficiency.” They will act like a jackhammer and chainsaw that will quickly downsize the administrative state. As experienced and successful businessmen, they have a lot of good ideas about how to eliminate fraud and waste, but they are also seeking suggestions from Americans in what will be a transparent process.
Although Musk thinks they can reduce government spending by about $2 trillion per year, it's important to keep in mind that DOGE's recommendations will have to be approved by a near-evenly split House of Representatives who will worry about getting reelected in two years, and by a Senate that is dominated by D.C. swamp creatures. Special interests will mount the mother of all lobbying efforts to keep billions of dollars flowing to them from Uncle Sucker.
Additionally, due to federal unfunded liabilities with a present value of over $200 trillion, it will only buy us some time. We are already past the event horizon of a debt black hole, and there will be no escaping a sovereign debt crisis, the collapse of the dollar, and probably the collapse of the federal government as well. It's just a matter of time.
Pete Hegseth was a surprise pick for Secretary of Defense. I wasn't aware of his impressive background, just that he was a Fox News host. Although young at 44, he is also a combat veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan. If you watch these video clips, you'll understand why the Military Industrial Complex and social engineers are opposed to his nomination. Here's a clip of him returning his degree to Harvard.
I'm not sure about Kristi Noem to head up Homeland Security. I think that department will be abolished, anyway.
I was shocked by the nomination of Matt Gaetz (another young pick at 42) for Attorney General. After years of unnecessary grief from his own Attorneys General, I can see why Trump would want a loyalist for this position. However, Gaetz was under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for sexual misconduct, illicit drug use, and accepting improper gifts. And he's burned a lot of bridges in his own party. There's no way the Senate will confirm him.
Tom Homan promises to “run the biggest deportation force this country has ever seen,” and it sounds like he means business.
Tulsi Gabbard was nominated to be Director of National Intelligence, but is she still a suspected terrorist? According to whistleblowers, just three months ago, she was “unknowingly monitored by two Explosive Detection Canine Teams, one Transportation Security Specialist specializing in explosives, one plainclothes TSA Supervisor, and three Federal Air Marshals on every flight she boards.” Might that be a good expense for DOGE to cut?
Finally, I'm thrilled that Trump nominated RFK to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services after he made his Make America Healthy Again movement part of the MAGA coalition. The poisoning of our food and water and a drug-centered health care system have created a silent epidemic of obesity, sickness and premature death that had become normalized until RFK highlighted the problem. This nomination will result in a radical and long overdue break from decades of abuse.
In conclusion, given the existential threats faced by the U.S., dramatic and sweeping changes need to be implemented immediately if we are to save it. After many years of corruption and decline, it is heartening to know that that complete overhaul is now imminent.
